Join us down under for a very special Bluegrass Underground on Saturday, Feb 27TH featuring The John Cowan Band, Mike Farris and The McCrary Sisters, and The Greencards.

Each artist will perform a 45 minute set and the event will be filmed in resplendent high definition by emmy award winning filmmaker Todd Jarrell in partnership with Cookeville, Tn PBS affiliate WCTE.

Bluegrass Underground looks forward to a great day in the cave with an eclectic and incredible line-up of some great Bluegrass and Americana talent. Join us for what promises to be a great day of sounds and sights from the Volcano Room at World Famous Cumberland Caverns!

Bluegrass Underground Featured on “Tennessee Crossroads”

Bluegrass Underground is featured this week on Tennessee Crossroads. The award-winning PBS show came down to The Volcano Room with Joe Elmore and crew on March 14th, which of course was the Travelin McCoury’s and Ronnie Bowman. The segment airs on Thursday night , June 11th at 7pm CST and again on Saturday morning at 10am CST. It’s also online at http://wnpt.org/productions/crossroads/2009_jun.html

1st Annual Bluegrass Underground 4th of July Celebration!

Please join us in helping to celebrate two birthdays this 4th of July: America and Cumberland Caverns. Cumberland Caverns opened as a show cave on July 4th 1956 and will celebrate it’s 53 rd year while America will celebrate 233 years of being the best country on earth! WSM will broadcast the special edition LIVE from the Volcano Room with Six great artists who represent the best in Bluegrass and Roots music: The John Cowan Band, The Tn Mafia String Band, The Josh Williams Band, Missy Raines and The New Hip, Pokey Lafarge and Christabel and The Jons.

There will be a second stage above ground and all artists will play a set at both stages, below and above ground.

  • Tickets are just $30 for both stages and all day

  • 12 and under tickets are $15

  • Kids 5 and under are free

  • Free caricature drawings for all kids from Tracy Latham

  • A kids play area with games, inflatables, snowcones, cotton candy and more!

  • Hourly drawings in the Volcano Room for great prizes

The Travelin’ McCourys and Ronnie Bowman are taking the show underground Saturday, March 14 with a performance on Bluegrass Underground. The venue is 333 feet underground in the Volcano Room at Cumberland Caverns near McMinnville, Tenn. Tickets for the 2:00 pm show are $15 and available online at Bluegrass Underground’s web site.

The Bluegrass Underground is recorded for broadcast on WSM 650 AM and streamed online at WSMonline.com at 5:00 pm (central) time every Saturday.

Silver Jews to Play in Underground Cave! | Spin Magazine Online

Doing their part to keep underground music alive, Pavement offshoot the Silver Jews are due to play a super-subterranean show on January 31 at McMinnville, Tennessee’s Cumberland Caverns.

The lo-fi country-rock outfit will tape an afternoon performance for a midnight radio broadcast of “Bluegrass Underground” on Nashville’s WSM radio [via Pitchfork.com]. The show is open to the public, so dig out that spelunking gear and come on down, literally.
